Welcome to SeniorSafe Home Solutions, LLC, a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist business and a subsidiary of Hershey Miller Painting.
Nearly a decade ago, my siblings and I sat down with our parents for a family meeting. They were approaching 80, and we had growing concerns about their safety at home — limited space for my mom to maneuver her walker, a bathroom with no grab bars, and no walk-in shower.
We faced a difficult question:
Was it time to pack up the house and move to a retirement facility, or could we make the home safer so they could continue living where they were most comfortable?
My parents’ answer was clear. They wanted to remain in their home.
That moment marked the beginning of our family’s journey into aging in place.
The process was not always easy. There was pushback, frustration, difficult conversations, and disagreements — especially around decluttering and safety changes. My brother, in particular, carried much of the burden during those conversations. But throughout it all, our priority remained the same: respecting our parents’ and their wishes while protecting their safety and well-being.
What we learned is that aging in place is not a one-time decision or a single product you buy at a hardware store. It is a process and a mindset — one that requires ongoing attention to mobility, vision, hearing, cognition, and physical ability. Needs change over time, and safety must evolve with them.
Why I Started SeniorSafe Home Solutions
Last year, my father experienced a serious medical incident. When he returned home from rehab, I stepped in as his primary support while arrangements were made for full-time in-home care. I became the point person communicating with physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and caregivers.
Through dozens of conversations, I gained immense respect for the professionals who care for seniors every day. I also heard the same concerns repeatedly: families don’t know who to call, what to do, or where to turn when a sudden health crisis happens — even for something as simple as installing a grab bar safely.
Those conversations stayed with me.
When I returned home to Pittsburgh, I couldn’t shake what I had learned. Too many families are left overwhelmed during critical moments, without clear guidance or access to reliable home safety solutions.
SeniorSafe Home Solutions was created to change that.
We help seniors and families understand and implement practical home safety and fall-prevention solutions, including professional grab bar installation and identifying hazards such as clutter, poor lighting, unsafe entrances, and difficult bathroom transfers.
But our work goes beyond installing safety equipment. We focus on creating safer living environments that support independence, dignity, and confidence at home.
To further support seniors and families navigating the aging-in-place process, I became a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builders.
SeniorSafe Home Solutions is also building a comprehensive network of trusted professionals to support seniors and families navigating the aging-in-place process. When additional help is needed, we want to help connect clients to experienced elder law attorneys, CPAs, mortgage specialists, caregivers, real estate professionals, and specialists who understand the complexities of Medicare and Medicaid.
Our goal is to ensure families are not left guessing who to call or where to turn during important life transitions. By working alongside qualified professionals who understand senior needs, we want to help clients access reliable guidance, resources, and support — all with the shared goal of safety, independence, and peace of mind.
